Summary:
Under direct supervision of Mountain Youth Network (MYN) Manager; the MYN Youth Programs Coordinator (YPC) develops opportunities for youth engagement and manages TREK Outdoors (youth outdoor leadership program).
TREK Outdoors enables youth in Clear Creek County to access outdoor recreation opportunities teaching leadership, resiliency, teamwork, empathy, responsibility, problem-solving, and communication.
Participant develop technical skills in activities including but not limited to; camping, hiking, backpacking, biking, rafting, snowshoeing, climbing, etc.
The MYN YPC is also responsible for the delivery of evidence-based curriculum, working closely with the Clear Creek School District for in-class instruction at the middle school level.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:
Cultivate and sustain organizational partnerships with youth, school staff, and outdoor organizations and businesses.
Collaborate with and support Mountain Youth Network (MYN) staff and coalition in Positive Youth Development (PYD).
Model best practices, provide a positive learning environment and exemplify professionalism to, for, and with youth participants.
Plan activities and programming for youth engagement in collaboration with MYN staff and other youth-serving entities.
Compile statistics and assist with grant writing and reporting.
Assist with relevant communications activities, including social media, website, print and radio messaging.
Attend outreach events to promote out-of-school activities.
Implement evidence-based programs; included but not limited to, Botvin LifeSkills Training Outdoor Leadership Plan, organize and co-lead activities such as camping, hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing and other outdoor activities.
Deliver curricula on leadership, communication, team-building and outdoor skills.
Oversee logistics for activities, including food purchasing, gear needs, and creating itineraries.
Document trips through photos and informative trip summaries.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor Degree; or equivalent education/experience.
Experience:
Two years' experience with Outdoor Leadership/Recreation, Environmental Education, Positive Youth Development, Education or related field (working with youth).
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification in Wilderness First Aid and CPR.
If not current, must be obtained within three to six months of hire.
Evidence-based Curriculum Instructor Certification (Botvin LifeSkills Training).
If not current, must be obtained with three months of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Skilled in logistics and organization for outdoor program planning and implementation.

Ability to accurately and effectively transmit and receive information that is necessary to the accomplishment of goals and objectives including effective written and oral communication; responsible to keep customers, subordinates, peers, and supervisors informed; and the excellent to listen.
Ability to form and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with strategic partners, county departments, co-workers and other agencies.
Ability to speak clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences.
Must be self-directed, as well as a team player.

Work is performed in both an office environment and outdoors environment.
In the office, this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax/scan machines.
In the outdoors, this position will routinely use hiking equipment, bikes, snowshoes, and other necessary outdoor activity equipment appropriate to the type of activity.
Outdoor activities may include the following which are examples of expected activities:
hiking, backpacking, biking, rafting, snowshoeing, and climbing.
Ability to hike in mountainous terrain is necessary.
Conditions that can be experienced of a person in this job include possible exposure to unknown and dangerous conditions, loud noise, all types of weather and non-weather conditions, exposure to extremes of temperatures, fumes, odors, dirt, dust and exposure to hazards associated with moving vehicles and operating a 12-14 passenger van safely and in poor driving conditions.
Some activities require climbing and manual dexterity.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
